[Editorial] YouTube explodes with "Gangnam Style" parodies
PSY's "Gangnam Style" has proven to be a huge viral hit both domestically and internationally. The YG artist has been actively promoting Gangnam Style on a large scale, even bringing the "horse-riding dance" to the Dodgers baseball stadium. Mnet and Koreaboo also recently hosted a large-scale flashmob event in Los Angeles, providing participants with rehearsal sessions and video footage.
But besides getting featured in numerous international news sources and receiving recognition from various well-known celebrities, "Gangnam Style" has also sparked the creation of numerous cover and parody videos on YouTube. Here are several of our top picks that we'd like to introduce (in no particular order.)
1. Hongdae Style
Hongdae is a district in Seoul that is known for its underground music culture as well as its nightlife. In the video, Trend Factory's main character walks along the vendor-filled streets of Hongdae and exhibits the over-the-top quality that is so well-loved in the original. The parody continues to feature many similar scenes including a yoga class scene, underground parking lot scene, and the infamous elevator scene.
2. Byuntae Style
Featuring comedian and musician David So, this parody video contains all the scenes that were in PSY's original video but with a "byuntae", or pervert's, perspective. Scenes include an elevator scene with Clara C, a sauna scene with Jason Chen, and a dance battle scene, just to name a few. The video also features cameos from many other YouTube musicians and personalities, including Arden Cho, Ally Maki, Bart Kwan, Chris Dinh, Dumbfounded, Travis Garland and more.
3. Pony Gangnam Style
A cute and colorful rendition of the original, "Pony Gangnam Style" features a brown pony with sunglasses. Although the video is only 30 seconds long, the animators accurately demonstrate the "horse-riding" dance from the original video, and the video automatically repeats itself, giving viewers an endless supply of "Pony Gangnam Style."
4. Oppa-ya Daegu Style
Another parody video from a different city, "Oppa-ya Daegu Style," the main point of this video is the Daegu accent rather than the Seoul accent from the original video. Like the other covers, "Daegu Style" uses similar scenes as the original, while adding its own unique flavor. Although some viewers may not be able to distinguish a Daegu accent from a Seoul accent, the video is hilarious, as the absurd and ridiculous scenes are enjoyable to watch nonetheless.
5. Gangnam Style Parody (Eng. Version)
Popular YouTube comedian "MyChonny" also revealed his own version of the music video, with misheard English lyrics and his friend dressing up as yellow-suited Yoo Jaesuk. Although Chonny doesn't perform the entirety of the song, the video still makes for a fun and silly parody, sure to tickle viewers with its absurdity.
6. Miguk Style
Featuring Caucasian actors to demonstrate the American version of the video, "Miguk Style" (American Style) is a fun homemade parody video that also imitates a lot of similar scenes to the original. Notable scenes include pieces of paper sticking to the actors' faces, dance shots in a cramped van, and performing the "horse-riding" dance on a mini merry-go-round. And of course, the creators did not forget to include the ever-so-popular "yoga appreciation" scene.
What do you think of the YouTube parodies? Have you been doing the "horse-riding" dance lately?

Although i like Gangnam Style, i don't think this song will be more than a summer song.
it's fun and addictive but in few months its popularity will be over in US.
Anyway PSY fighting ^^
