KPOP 101: Meet the members of Secret

Submitted: Dec 23 2011 07:26 AM by Uni

In the beginning of October, Koreaboo introduced the first edition to KPOP 101 with U-Kiss as the first group to be featured. Through KPOP 101, Koreaboo hopes for new fans to learn more about the group members individually.

As the Hallyu Wave expands worldwide, and more and more groups make their entrance into their Korean music scene, fans find themselves in the position unable to match names to faces.

Following U-Kiss, Secret is the next group to be introduced!

Secret initially made their debut in 2009, and since then they have worked to become one of the top girl groups in Korea. On October 15th, 2009, they debuted with their digital single "I Want You Back," which had been released two days earlier online.

On March 31st, 2010, Secret returned with their 1st mini-album "Secret Time" and promoted the title track "Magic," a catchy, upbeat dance song with an equally catchy dance move, the "suspender dance." A few months later in August 2010, Secret followed up with a song with a similar beat titled "Madonna," which topped various charts in Korea.

Secret grew into prominence as one of the top girl groups in Korea when they released their catchiest song, "Shy Boy," in 2011. Breaking away from the concept of "Madonna," they took a swing dance and American 1950s concept. They then wowed fans with the fantasy-like music video set of their next single "Starlight, Moonlight."

In October 2011, Secret made their return to Korea after promoting in Japan with their Japanese debut single "Madonna." The group stated that they truly felt like artists after they released their 1st studio album, "Moving In Secret." With a spin on their previous concept, Secret returned with a strong, sexy, and mature look, a Betty Boop-type concept, for the title song "Love Move." As one of the power girl groups in the industry, they overtook real-time charts upon the release of the album.

Despite returning in the middle of what has been dubbed the "girl group war," as noted with the return of Girls' Generation, Brown Eyed Girls, Wonder Girls, SISTAR, and T-ara, Secret has not passed by unnoticed and has been performing strongly on both charts and weekly music shows.

I purposely left it out, because I wanted to focus on the title song that they were most recognized for to their current songs, but I added a line regarding it :)

It's great that you are doing those articles, but a little unfortunate you got things wrong there: Starlight Moonlight was twice as successful than Love Is Move. It is currently rank 11th of Yearly Digital charts, it will end up the year within the Top 20. I know international fans didn't like too much, but you should have checked it. Starlight Moonlight is one of the main hit of 2011 in Korea.
