SNSD snags two out of three awards at MTV Video Music Aid Japan
SNSD recently attended the MTV Video Music Aid Japan event on July 25th, an award/performance show that aimed to gain funding for the Red Cross relief efforts following the tragic natural disasters that befell Japan.
Although the individual award nominees were picked by MTV staff, the general public was able to provide input by voting online for their favorite award contenders in each of the fifteen different categories.
SNSD was up against heavy competition, such as Utada Hikaru, Lady Gaga, and Linkin Park, yet still fatefully snagged a victory in two out of the three award categories they were nominated for. The girls received both the "Best Karaoke! Song" award and the "Best Group Video" award for their fiery hit song "Genie".
In addition to their participation in the award ceremonies, SNSD lit up the stage with a charismatic performance of their latest single, "Mr. Taxi", and a song fresh off of their first Japanese album, titled "The Great Escape".
An extra sneak peek from the award ceremony will be broadcast on July 23rd to offer curious viewers a glimpse of the backstage area. The video also promises to include bits of commentary from the show's staff members.
