Japanese netizens planning to boycott Fuji TV
On July 23rd, Japanese actor Sousuke Takaoka wrote some controversial comments about Hallyu on his Twitter account. He said, "I don't really watch channel 8 (Fuji TV) anymore. It sometimes makes me wonder if it's a Korean channel. Japanese people want traditional Japanese programs", later adding, "It feels like Korean programs brainwash you, and it really makes me feel bad. Broadcasters need to realize its negative effect." Since then, hostility towards the spread of Hallyu culture has been growing in Japan.
Takaoka's comments have prompted the largely underground anti-Hallyu movement in Japan to voice their support for him, organizing a group boycott on Fuji TV. They are organizing an event on August 8th to suggest tuning out of Fuji TV during the whole day to bring about a massive drop in the channel's rating. A tweet read, "To protest Hallyu overboard, lets boycott FujiTV for one day on 8/8. If you support these views please join us. Also please spread on Twitter #nofujitv88". The date August 8th was picked because Fuji TV, the Japanese channel that broadcasts the most Korean TV shows, is on channel eight.
These netizens are saying, “No more Hallyu!” “Let’s show the power of Twitterians”, “Our goal is to make 0% TV ratings”, and “Japan is going through a tough period, and there’s no need to watch a broadcaster that supports other countries.”

WOW! really? seriously? so disappointing... People are so full of hatred. Hallyu is on a rise because people demand it. People just need to accept it.

I honestly think this article should be modified. It doesn't address the fact at all that the reason Fuji TV is even broadcasting Korean idols is precisely because they're so popular. This article makes it sound like everyone in Japan is racist. The people participating in this "boycott" (which no one that I know of in Japan is aware of) are a small minority, but this article makes it sound like it's everyone. Just sayin. :)

wow.
that's kinda sad.
but... Japanese is known to be really nationalistic.
So I don't blame them.
But.. one day of zero ratings won't make the Hallyu wave go away.
there are still hallyu idol groups in japan that are making the top charts. such as SHINee and FTisland. so...... i dont think this will help.
idk.. that's just my opinion

it says say no to hallyu *over*board not no to koreans. it's not racist. i mean has anyone noticed that all idol group's japanese debut is pretty much a given fact if they maintain any kind of popularity in korea? why don't they start debuting in tagolog or cantonese, or thai? or start seriously tackling the US? or canada? or Germany? they are oversaturating the market there and here's nothing rong with a group of people saying "enough! pay attention to OUR problems, not THEIR pretty faces!"

Korean idols' popularity really does not reach much farther than Asia. Yeah, there are fans all over the world, but the numbers cannot be compared to the numbers in Asia. Japan's music industry is the best in Asia, so logically they'd shoot to make it big in Japan.
And quite frankly, if these people were so very concerned with their own country's problems so much, they wouldn't be spending so much time and effort on this kind of boycott. Changing a channel's broadcasts won't do much for the country's economy or health.

Everyone, I present to you xenophobia!
Sigh... I wish to hear the voices of those Japanese who fully support the Hallyu movement. This is starting to sound like the hatred I witness for many American stars for being "gay." People eventually pretend that they don't like the artist and say really horrible things....
Sometimes the voices of those opposing can be much louder than those agreeing....and I think this is one of those times. I wish to hear of an anti-anti movement, where a group organizes the complete opposite of the anti group's ideas.
