"26 Years" shows strong performance at the box office on its opening weekend
The film "26 Years," which was released on November 29th, has been drawing in large audiences at theaters throughout Korea. In fact, the film managed to top the box office rankings on the day of its release, drawing in more than 113,000 people. The film continued to perform strongly at the box office this past weekend as many people had even purchased their tickets in advance to see the film.
Starring actress Han Hyejin and 2AM member Seulong, "26 Years" is about a group of people who team up to catch a person who is responsible for a massacre that took place 26 years ago. Han Hyejin plays the role of a nationally-acclaimed shooter who puts her reputation and fame at stake in order to catch the criminal and Seulong plays the role of a young policeman who is hesitant on joining the chase. Other characters involved in the pursuit of the criminal include gangsters who have lost family members due to the Gwangju Democratization Movement in the 1980's and a company executive.
"26 Years" is based on a webtoon series by Kang Full, and the webtoon was inspired by the events of the Gwangju Democratization Movement.
