Rain discredits rumor of cheating for 2006 TIME 100 award
There has been a rumor circulating accusing Rain of having paid people to vote for him for the 2006 TIME 100 Most Influential People of the Year award. The story going around is that he had paid Chinese voters residing in the U.S. to choose him as their pick. He supposedly made this decision because he was having difficulties with a production company involved in his North American tour at the time.
At this situation, a spokesperson on behalf of Rain stated, "It’s ridiculous that the number of votes Rain received for the Time 100 was fake. The hundred celebrities were selected by the world-renowned magazine Time. The process of the vote was very fair, and the vote didn’t even play a decisive role in selecting the hundred people. It’s not true that Rain hired people to vote for him. It’s also strange to question the selection criteria of the world-renowned magazine. The selection must have been done fairly. It’s ridiculous to report such a false rumor."
Still serving his military duties, Rain's legal representative asserted that the global star was popular enough to merit his nomination at the time. Furthermore, Rain went on to win the award again more recently in 2011 and was dubbed "South Korea's Unstoppable Pop Superstar."
What do you think of the accusations?
