Police confirm Shin Hae Chul’s death was due to medical malpractice

On March 3rd (KST), police confirmed that the cause of Shin Hae Chul’s death was medical malpractice by Hospital S. With such results, the police are set to hand over the case to the prosecution team.

According to official reports, during Shin Hae Chul’s gastrolysis surgery on October 17th, 2014, Director K of the hospital conducted a surgical operation on areas that were not initially agreed on by the patient and caused holes in his organs, which inevitably caused peritonitis and blood poisoning. After a thorough investigation process, the police results confirm that director K has conducted a medical malpractice for his inability to notice the side effects post surgery and proceed with adequate treatment or action.

The police department stated, “Although Director K could have pointed peritonitis from Shin Hae Chul’s consistent pain, heat, and leukocytosis, Director K merely considered these to be side-effects of the conducted surgery and did not perform adequate procedures to find the source of and give appropriate treatment to the victim’s pain.”

The chief of the crime department expressed, “According to two professional organizations and an anonymous hospital, an appropriate action should have been taken by looking at the x-rays of his chest and numerical records of his white blood cells. By looking at the reports made by National Forensic Service, there is a high likelihood that the surgical operation was unnecessary and such an inappropriate surgery damaged his pericardium. Despite the fact that there might have been medical malpractice during the surgery, if an appropriate action was taken, this would not have led to a death after all.”

Shin Hae Chul had surgery back in October 2014. Afterwards, he was hospitalized and released twice until finally collapsing from a heart attack after going to the hospital a third time. An emergency operation took place right after his collapse, however, Shin Hae Chul was unable to recover and passed away due to brain damage caused by lack of oxygen.

Meanwhile, Shin Hae Chul’s agency KCA Entertainment is soon to announce the official police reports and their official stance on this unfortunate case.
