5 K-Pop Idols Who Were Banned From Certain Broadcast Networks Due To Scandals

Some K-Pop idols get involved in major scandals, to the point where they’re practically forced to go into hiatus. However, some K-Pop idols have gotten into such large scandals that they’ve gotten banned from certain broadcasting networks. Here are just a few idols who ran into situations like this.

1. Andy (SHINHWA)

In 2013, Andy was indicted with illegally gambling on soccer matches, and it led him to withdraw from all of his activities. MBC, which is one of the main broadcasting channels in South Korea, banned Andy from appearing on their network. Also, Andy wasn’t the only one that apologized for his actions, as the other SHINHWA members also made an apology for his actions.

Andy’s ban from MBC lasted for around 1 year, as it got lifted in 2015.

2. Park Yoochun (Former member of JYJ)

In 2019, Park Yoochun was accused of drug use, but he admittedly denied all the claims. However, he soon made headlines when he tested positive for a drug test. After this, Park Yoochun admitted to the drug charges and was soon sentenced to 2 years of probation

After these events, Park Yoochun was banned from the broadcasting network MBC.

3. Tony Ahn (Former member of H.O.T)

In 2013, Tony was accused of illegal online sports gambling alongside celebrities Lee Soo Geun and Tak Jae Hoon. The accusations turned out to be true, and Tony was sentenced to a 6-month prison sentence with 1-year probation.

After these events, broadcasting network KBS banned all H.O.T songs from their broadcasts. Not only that, but Tony was also banned from appearing on both KBS and MBC. The ban for Tony was lifted in 2016, around 3 years after it began.

4. Choi Jong Hoon (Former member of F.T. Island)

In 2019, Choi Jong Hoon was revealed to be in a group chat with Jung Joon Young, where they would share explicit videos. He was soon found guilty of sexual assault, illegal production, and distribution of pornographic videos without the consent of the women involved.

Choi Jong Hoon was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and was banned from all broadcasting networks.

5. Gil (Former member of Leessang)

Gil might not be a K-Pop idol, but he too was once banned from certain broadcasting networks. In 2017, Gil was banned from broadcasting network KBS for drunk driving. This made some headlines as this was Gil’s third DUI.
