EXO’s Baekhyun Hard Carried SM Entertainment In Revenue For The First Half Of 2020 – Here’s How Much He Earned Them

Powerful things come in small packages.

We all know that SM Entertainment rolls in it due to the high popularity of their idols. However, one idol in particular practically did the heavy-lifting in the first half of 2020. SM Entertainment’s reported total album sales under Gaon Music Chart was taken over by the fairy-sized vocal from EXO, Baekhyun.

Baekhyun’s album sales for his second solo album, Delight, was a good 20% of the total sales under the company. This is an extraordinary feat given that the active singers that released albums between January and May 2020 include NCT 127, NCT Dream, Taeyeon and fellow EXO member, Suho.

Delight had sold 1,018,746 copies total, making him the best-selling solo singer ever since Gaon Charts opened in 2011. At the retail price of ₩16,300 KRW ($13.58 USD) per album, the total revenue would be over ₩16 billion KRW ($13 million USD).

SHINee‘s Key put it best when he once said that if SM Entertainment was a smaller company, EXO would’ve been made directors by now!

SM Entertainment lucked out when they brought Baekhyun into EXO despite a short 4 months of training. We can’t imagine what the K-pop industry would be without his presence!
