On June 20 (local time), NewJeans arrived at the airport to travel to Japan for their upcoming Japanese debut and fan concert.

The members looked amazing in coordinating school uniforms.

While all the outfits went perfectly together, each was slightly modified to allow the members’ personalities to shine, whether it was a different color tie, style of socks, shirt, or overlay.

While many netizens loved the outfits and thought they were cute…

Fans have had to defend the styling after some fans thought it was “sexualized.” In K-Pop, there have been times that uniforms on idols have raised concerns about sexualizing the looks on certain shows, and it led to fans criticizing NewJeans.

Netizens quickly hit back, saying that not only were the uniforms appropriate for the members and not styled sexually, but that it’s wrong to see uniforms and instantly have negative thoughts about the intention.

The outfits definitely suit the members and the Y2K concept they’ve had since debuting. Sadly, with the history of uniforms being worn and altered in K-Pop and other industries, they are sadly sexualized no matter who wears them.
