Go Youn Jung Cast With 25-Year-Older Veteran Actor In Lead Role, Netizens Outraged
The internet is up in arms demanding a recasting after actress Go Youn Jung was announced to join the cast of the upcoming action film, Nambeol.
On July 7, KST, production company Hive Media Corp announced that Go had been cast in the leading role of the movie, to portray the character of Ae Ryeong. Earlier, veteran actor Lee Byung Hun was also confirmed to star in the lead role of Im Eok in the movie.
Set in the early Joseon dynasty, Nambeol is a martial arts action film based on the story of nine warriors who rescue captives abducted by Japanese pirates. The movie is set to begin filming in the second half of 2026.
This casting news has sparked some heated pushback on social media, with many of the actress’s fans taking issue with the huge age gap between the two leads. Many hoped that there wouldn’t be any romantic subplot involving the leads.
