Highlight’s Doojoon Confides To Fans About Hardship In The Army Through Handwritten Letter

“I felt like everything was falling apart.”

Around US Entertainment revealed a handwritten letter to fans by Highlight‘s Doojoon, who is currently serving in the military, through their Instagram account.

Amendments to the South Korean Military Service Law, which were made on May 29, 2018, had prevented Doojoon from participating in scheduled fan meetings and promotions overseas back in June. Not long after, Doojoon was unexpectedly enlisted into the army on August 24.

Recent pictures showed Doojoon with his fellow soldiers, who are currently serving their military training. Among them was BTOB‘s Eunkwang, who also recently enlisted in the army.

As his first letter to fans since his enlistment, Doojoon began by thanking his fans for their letters and for all of their support.

“How are you? Are you well? I’m worried for everyone because we’re going through a change of seasons. Oh! I want to begin by saying thank you. I’ve been reading each and every letter everyone has been sending. Handwritten letters too! Reading about all the news, I feel thankful and in a way I am sorry as well so my mind has not been comfortable these days..”

He also confessed that it was not easy for him to enter the army so suddenly with a smiling face, but that he had no other choice.

“It seems like many people were worried. They said they felt bad for me for having to enlist in the army without being able to rest at all.. Yes.. Even I think it’s pitiful..But I couldn’t help but keep the smile on my face for the sake of those around me who were left in an awkward situation because of me.” — Doojoon

He continued to reveal that, in fact, he was going through a very difficult time but reassured fans by letting them know that he’s now overcome them.

“I was very determined and everyone around me encouraged me but it was so difficult. I felt like everything was falling apart. I wasn’t able to deal with anything so I felt so lost as to what I needed to do so I cried a lot when I was alone. I still sometimes feel this way but I think I’ve adjusted to it so don’t worry.” — Doojoon

Finally, he expressed how much he missed his fans and apologized for not being able to say a proper goodbye before leaving.

“I miss everyone so much. I don’t know how long I’ll feel uncomfortable and sorry for not being able to say a proper goodbye, but I may cry my heart out on the day we meet again after all of our members complete their military service and you are still there for us.” — Doojoon

Fans were touched by Doojoon’s caring words and expressed that they would continue to support and patiently wait for him. Read Doojoon’s full letter below:
