SBS‘s hit K-Drama My Royal Nemesis might have concluded its broadcast, but fans don’t seem to be moving on anytime soon. The show exceeded expectations, securing major viewership both domestically and internationally, topping Netflix charts, and simultaneously reaching a peak viewership rating of 11.8% in Korea.

Aside from the solid script and fresh theme, one of the major contributors to the show’s success was the chemistry of the lead actors, Heo Nam Jun and Lim Ji Yeon.

The show’s director, Han Tae Seop, and writer Kang Hyun Ju also admitted that the lead pair’s chemistry really drove the project home. In a recent interview, director Han mentioned that both he and the writer were in high spirits after successfully casting the lead actors and praised the two for their ability to perfectly embody their characters.

Director Han mentioned that the real-life chemistry between Lim Ji Yeon and Heo Nam Jun was so strong that they had to actually tone it down for drama.

In reality, the chemistry between them exceeded all expectations. They exuded such palpable sexual tension that even a simple two-shot created a romantic atmosphere—to the point where it was actually difficult to gauge the right level of intensity.
