Soldier Who Escaped North Korea Loves Choco Pie So Much, He was given a lifetime supply

On his way to recovery following his dramatic escape from North Korea in November, the first thing Oh Chung Sung asked for was a Choco Pie.

For those not familiar with the Korean snack, Choco Pies are chocolate-covered mini cakes with marshmallow filling similar to the North American Jos Louis.

After hearing about his craving for Choco Pies, the manufacturer, Orion, sent 100 boxes to the hospital where the soldier is recovering.

The soldier is currently recovering at Ajou University Hospital in Suwon, South Korea.

Orion has also committed to providing him with a lifetime supply of Choco Pies as long as he stays in South Korea!

Choco Pie is a very popular snack among South Korean soldiers.

One might wonder how a North Korean soldier would know what a Choco Pie is…

… but, the fact is, Choco Pies are a prized item distributed to the North Korean workers employed at the South Korean-operated industrial complex in Kaesong, North Korea.

North Korean workers received Choco Pie from their employers daily.

Many workers reportedly save and hide Choco Pies so they can share them with their families.

It would seem that, at the end of the day, the North Korean soldier was just a who wanted something comforting and familiar.
