A SEVENTEEN member has gone viral in Korea after fans noticed his supposedly “man-hating” social media activity.
The member in question is Vernon, who recently put out his EP, V8, under the subunit by the same name, consisting of The8 and him.
Recently, some fans noticed that Venon’s Instagram account had “liked” a post making fun of “Hannam,” a derogatory term used mostly to denote toxic Korean men. The term is often used by women to criticize men with a patriarchal attitude or toxic masculinity.
The post that Vernon liked humorously listed three expressions used frequently by “Hannams” that the OP (Original Poster) found annoying— saying “Ye?” (“Excuse me?”) when they hear something weird, saying “Um” as exclamations, and repeated saying “Aniyo” (“No”) in a sentence.
Since the usage of the term can often be controversial and lead to backlash, Vernon publicly interacting with content that openly makes fun of this kind of man has become a hot topic across online communities. Fans are more than glad to see a male idol openly take a stance against toxic masculinity and the men who enforce it.
