However, in August 2016, he was arrested on charges of rape against a female hotel employee. While staying at the hotel while filming, Takahata allegedly attacked the woman and forced her inside his room, pinning the woman’s limbs down and sexually assaulting her, causing injuries to her right arm.

According to police, Takahata admitted to the charges, saying, “I saw the woman and couldn’t contain my desire.” Takahata and his mother made public apologies early on in the investigation.

The case was later dropped, reportedly after a settlement was reached with the victim, with Takahata’s manager cancelling his contract the very same day. Following a multi-year hiatus, Takahata returned to acting in a stage play, but had not been featured in any other formats.

Recently, Takahata revealed that he would be appearing in Stove League, a remake of the 2019 Korean drama of the same name.

The program will be broadcast on Lemino/WOWOW starting on March 28.
