Nana’s Home Invasion Robber Makes Shocking Claims From Prison

A man who was arrested after breaking into the home of After School member-turned-actress Nana and committing robbery is raising another controversy by claiming his innocence in a letter from prison.

The 30-year-old man, identified as A, was arrested last November on charges of armed robbery and assault after breaking into Nana and her mother’s house in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, wielding a weapon and demanding money. He recently sent a lengthy letter to JTBC’s Crime Chief through an acquaintance.

In the letter, A denied premeditation, claiming, “I only intended to commit theft and did not prepare any weapons in advance.” He stated, “I entered wearing only gloves and a headset, and during the struggle, Nana stabbed me with a weapon that was in the house,” positioning himself as the victim. He also explained his motive was “to obtain money for my mother’s hospital bills.”

Notably, A alleged that during police questioning, Nana’s side offered him ₩40.0 million KRW (about $27,700 USD) if he testified that he had entered wielding a weapon. He claimed that believing this, he initially stuck to the agreed statement but later wrote the letter to reveal the truth. It was also reported that he filed a countersuit against Nana for attempted murder and aggravated assault.

However, these claims directly contradict the investigation findings. Police confirmed that A climbed a ladder to enter through the veranda, carrying a weapon in its sheath. Inside, he threatened Nana’s mother by choking her, putting her life at risk. Alerted by her mother’s screams, Nana woke up and immediately acted with her mother to subdue A, who sustained a laceration to his chin in the process.

Police stated shortly after the incident, “There was a clear invasion of the victims’ rights, and there is no indication that excessive force was used against the perpetrator during the defense,” ruling Nana and her mother’s actions as legitimate self-defense. Consequently, they were excluded from suspects.

Nana’s agency firmly denied A’s allegations. The agency stated, “The claims regarding hospital bills, monetary proposals, or any weapons-related agreements are entirely false. In fact, the perpetrator asked us not to report to the police.” They added, “The perpetrator is causing secondary harm by filing a countersuit against the victim without remorse and exploiting Nana’s celebrity status. We will not show leniency and will take all possible civil and criminal legal actions.”

Some interpret A’s countersuit and prison letter as a strategy to reduce his sentence or stir debate over self-defense. Although self-defense has already been recognized by the police, they plan to review the case following proper procedures since a complaint was filed.
