Actor Park Jihoon is drawing attention after revealing the dramatic physical transformation he underwent for his upcoming film role.
At the production press conference for The Man Who Lives With The King, director Jang Hang Jun shared the story behind Park Jihoon’s casting, including his honest first impression.
The director explained that he first noticed Jihoon after watching the drama Weak Hero, saying Jihoon’s performance immediately made him think of King Danjong, a character who appears fragile on the outside but carries inner strength. Jang Hang Jun said he was looking for an actor with that specific gaze and emotional depth, which led him to reach out for a meeting.
However, he revealed that Jihoon arrived at the first meeting in a noticeably heavier state, causing concern. Because the role of the exiled young king required a gaunt and worn appearance, the director admitted there were initial concerns about whether the visual would match the character.
Despite this, Jihoon’s acting potential and presence ultimately secured the casting. Park Jihoon later revealed that he lost around 15 kilograms in about two and a half months to fully portray the role, impressing both the director and his co-stars.
