As criticism over the group’s performance grew, international media outlet NME released a review of LE SSERAFIM’s performance, in which the media outlet gave the idols high praise. In its review, NME gave the group 4/5 stars, stating that the group “Bring [sic] out the festival energy in their determined tracks.”

Rather than praise the group, however, the review has spurred on a deluge of more criticism. Some went even as far as imply that the group had paid off the media outlet.

  • “I guess the stars don’t really mean much… I remember when fans used to brag about BLACKPINK’s 4-star review… It seems 4 stars is the default score.”
  • “If you look at their reviews, they only score 4 or 5 stars.”
  • “They just give out 4-star reviews.”
  • “They gave Lana Del Rey 4 stars, too, so don’t be mad and disperse.”
  • “Did they just give out 4 stars because they didn’t want to bother with the review?”
  • “This is why HYBE is the way they are.”
  • “NME is very generous.”
  • “We just live in a world where you can buy popularity.”
  • “It seems like the reviews are akin to reviews on food apps.”
