NCT Shotaro’s Family Didn’t Support Him Coming To Korea To Become A K-Pop Idol

His parents and grandparents were against the idea.

Two years since his debut in NCT, Shotaro sat down with Japanese magazine MEN’S NON-NO to look back on his journey of becoming a K-Pop idol. Although Shotaro is always smiling and full of warmth, his path to debut wasn’t a flowery one—proved by how much his family opposed the idea.

When asked about the strength it took to leave Japan and move to Korea, Shotaro confirmed that it hadn’t been an easy choice but a necessary one. He answered, “That was a turning point. Honestly, I moved to Korea, thinking this would be my last chance to become an artist.

Before he made the big decision, Shotaro faced an obstacle from the people who only wanted the best for him. He admitted, “Both my parents and my grandparents stopped me once.

The Japanese native didn’t let his family’s worries hold him back from achieving his dream. Shotaro asked them to believe in him, “But I had this firm resolve within me and told them that, ‘I would come back after I debuted.’

Despite the strong face he’d put on for his family, Shotaro hadn’t been unphased by making the choice. He said, “I did have a lot of concerns, but I also had this image of shining bright on a big stage.

From the many obstacles Shotaro overcame to debut, it’s understandable why his family had been so concerned. Fortunately, he was able to keep his word and make them proud as a member of NCT.
