Sunoo’s experience was a classic case of sleep paralysis. But what exactly is sleep paralysis?

It’s a condition identified by a brief loss of muscle control, known as atonia, that happens just after falling asleep or waking up. People also have hallucinations during sleep paralysis. An estimated 75% of sleep paralysis episodes involve hallucinations distinct from typical dreams.
