BLACKPINK’s Jennie Shocks Netizens With Glimpses Of Her Possible “Villain” Character In HBO’s “The Idol” Trailer
Although K-Pop idols have roles within groups, some are true all-rounders wowing in singing, dancing, rapping, and visuals. One of those that is always mentioned has to be BLACKPINK‘s Jennie, who continues to showcase her diversity as an idol.
Well, after the announcement that Jennie would be making her acting debut in HBO‘s series The Idol, it further cemented the title of “All-Rounder.” So far, there have only been a few snippets of what fans can expect from Jennie.
After the teasers showcased Jennie’s acting and visuals, the most recent trailer proves that the idol is definitely taking on a new role… of a villain?
During the trailer, the series proves that it definitely isn’t a show you expect an idol to appear on, never mind Jennie, who is from one of the biggest groups in the world. From the explicit language to provocative looks, it is worlds away from the Korean world of entertainment.
Yet, it seems like Jennie is embracing the cultural differences with a role that many think is much darker.
During one of the scenes, one of the characters explains, “Los Angeles is where all the monsters of the world come to gather.” As soon as the words leave his mouth, the camera switches to Jennie, who is seen not only signing something but then has an expression that combines innocence but also mystery.
The theories of Jennie’s role in the series have become more detailed after the trailer. In particular, some fans looked to the other trailers for guidance.
During one of the clips, a character is seen saying, “Hello, angel,” in a tone suggesting the person on the other side is significant in some way.
The reason why this is significant is that Jennie was seen wearing a gold necklace that seemingly has an angel pendant. For many, they believe it could be giving hints about the idol’s character.
When the clips were released, netizens couldn’t get over the fact they might not only be seeing Jennie’s acting debut but the idol being in a role unlike any other.

It wouldn’t be the first time Jennie showcased diversity in her acting skills. At the end of September, the idol wowed with her commercial for the brand TAMBURINS‘. In the video, she gave netizens a glimpse of what Jennie could do when showcasing a much darker and more mysterious side.
With the show not set for release until 2023, netizens will just have to rely on these teasers to get their Jennie acting fix. No matter how long the wait, it will definitely be worth it to see the BLACKPINK idol showcasing a new side to her.
