RM released his first official solo album Indigo on Friday, December 2, along with the music video for the title track, “Wild Flower (with Youjeen).” The full album contains a total of ten songs, telling his personal and sincere story of his changed tendencies, tastes, thoughts, and concerns. He also did exclusive interviews with a few publications promoting the album.

In an exclusive feature with NME, RM opened up about his regrets, growing up in the public eye. Since Indigo touches on so many personal topics, such as satisfaction, he also spoke about it in the interview.

Satisfaction – and specifically having no regrets – is something RM is keen to feel with this album. Since debuting with BTS nearly a decade ago, his life has played out in full view of the public.

BTS’s RM

RM is self-aware that he has made mistakes throughout his 20s. We all do. Unfortunately for him, he was also the leader of a famous boy band, so it’s all documented. While, like the rest of us, he wishes he (and everyone) could forget these moments, they remain on the internet and people’s phones.

There are lots of regrets because my whole twenties were an exhibition. There are a lot of images and videos and pictures of my past online and still remaining on a lot of people’s phones or social platforms – too many memories I want to be forgotten. Maybe the technology’s too great so it’s gonna stay somewhere forever, and sometimes it’s really horrible and scary.

Still, RM recognizes that this is a result of his choices. He made the mistakes he made. He also chose to be in the public eye by becoming a K-Pop idol.

But it’s my destiny because I chose to be a star and to be a boyband member.

Despite everything, RM would not trade his life over this. Whether you’re a celebrity or not, there will always be some hardship. Past mistakes don’t define you but guide you. It’s how you choose to act and grow moving forward that does.

Your mistakes are only mistakes if you repeat them. Learn from them instead.

Besides, Marvel superhero Doctor Stephen Strange (portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) taught him that this is the best version of all the universes.

Doctor Strange taught me this version of the universe is the best one.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange

In the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange used the Time Stone to peer into alternate futures in order to make the best decision on how to beat Thanos. Ultimately, he witnessed 14,000,605 alternative futures.

Doctor Strange: I went forward in time to view alternate futures. To see all the possible outcomes of the coming conflict.

Star-Lord: How many did you see?

Doctor Strange: Fourteen million, six hundred and five.

While Jungkook might be the Marvel fanboy of BTS, Doctor Strange taught RM something vital about life.
