2nd-Gen Girl Group Member Admits She Thought About Divorcing Her Husband In A Public Statement

He was shown publicly using her credit card to buy luxury items.

A second-generation girl group member opened up about the difficulties of her marriage that led to her contemplating divorce. She is in a different place now, both physically and mentally.

Kim Jihye is a former member of the girl group Cats, a girl group that debuted in 2007 during the girl group “boom” when many girl groups were born, such as Wonder Girls, KARA, and Girls’ Generation. The group was named after the musical Cats because of their concept of being exceptional singers and dancers like musical actors.

Her husband is Choi Sungwook, a former member of the group PARAN. The two were each other’s first loves and got married in 2019. Although their love life seemed like a fairytale at first, it wasn’t as picture-perfect as it seemed.

On May 7, Kim Jihye announced that she moved to Jeju Island to work on her marriage and shared vulnerable things about their relationship.

My husband and I are starting our new lives in Jeju. Last year was a painful year physically and mentally. We fought a lot and I even thought about divorce, and it was especially difficult while appearing in TV shows.

Last year, the couple appeared on TVING‘s Between Marriage and Divorce, revealing that Choi Sungwook was spending an unreasonable amount of money on luxury items with Kim Jihye’s credit card, which caused troubles in their marriage. He revealed that because he is a freelancer, his income fluctuates, so his wife makes more income.

Following the broadcast, the couple also appeared on Channel A‘s Dr. Oh’s Golden Clinic, seeking marriage advice and guidance from psychiatrist Oh Eun Young.

Due to them revealing the vulnerable aspects of their marriage to the public, Choi Sungwook received many hate comments, which strained their relationship.

After the show, my husband endured a lot of malicious comments and I watched him go through all of it. I felt so sorry for him. Later on, the mindset of ‘Let’s not fight anymore’ got so strong that we were burnt out from repeatedly trying to fix our relationship. Then, I suddenly realized that our goal was to look happy in front of others, instead of for us to be truly happy. Now, I’m learning to love myself first so that we can be happy for each other.

The couple then decided to move to Jeju Island because it is a special place to them—and a perfect place for them to start over.

Aiming to just be happy is difficult, so we decided to start over at the place where we had the most fun. Jeju Island, which we always went to for vacations, was special to us. I thought that coming to live in our most special place rather than just visiting would make our hearts more comfortable, so we came here without any contemplating. I’m not sure what’s going to happen here or what our marriage will be like, but I’m ready to receive it all as excitement. Please support our new lives in Jeju.

Lastly, the former singer announced that she is preparing to get pregnant and is currently going to the infertility hospital so that she can get pregnant.

I’m preparing to get pregnant. As I became more mature, I started to prepare to be a mother. I haven’t been able to get pregnant for four years, but I’m going to keep trying as I go to the infertility hospital. I’m going to let go of my mind and think good thoughts as I pray for a new life to come. We’ll someday become happy parents, right?
