In 2022, her career came to a halt after a DUI incident. After Kim’s death, Korean media belated reported that the actress had compensated all 57 stores impacted by her DUI. Kim had planned to make her acting comeback in what would be her final movie, Guitar Man.

Family, friends, and fans of the late actress are now mourning her passing but also celebrating her many incredible achievements that began at a young age. Kim debuted in the Korean entertainment industry as a 1-year-old child model in 2001 and went on to debut as a child actress in 2009, at age 9.

She became the youngest Korean actress to be invited to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival for her role in the 2009 film A Brand New Life. For that role, she was nominated in 2010 for “Best Newcomer” at the Asian Film Awards, and she won “Best New Actress” at the Buil Film Awards.

From there, Kim continued her meteoric rise by co-starring with Won Bin in The Man From Nowhere, which became Korea’s highest-grossing film in 2010. She won two “Best Actress” awards for her role at the Korean Film Awards and the Max Film Awards, and she was nominated for a third at the Baeksang Arts Awards.

One of her most impressive award show wins happened in 2014, when 14-year-old Kim received “Best New Actress” at the prestigious Blue Dragon Film Awards. She was the youngest nominee in the “Best New Actress” category that year. The other nominees were Kim Yoo Jung (then 15), Ryu Hye Young (then 23), Esom (then 24), and Lim Ji Yeon (then 24).

At age 15, Kim’s emotionally charged performance as a teen comfort woman in Snowy Road earned her widespread acclaim and a “Best Actress” award at the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival. During her career, Kim won 10 acting awards and was nominated for 12 more.

In addition to awards, Kim also received praise for her impressive acting, versatility, and ability to portray complex roles from a young age. By 2016, she was transitioning to adult roles in films and K-Dramas, including Secret Healer, Leverage, and Nobody Knows.

May she rest in peace.
