“Produce X 101” Trainee Makes Hollywood Debut In LGBT+ Film

He’s come so far!

In 2019, a spin-off of the Produce series, Produce X 101, aired. This series variation followed a similar format and featured 101 male trainees attempting to debut.

Ultimately, the winners debuted as X1 before their forced disbandment, though many of the show’s trainees left an impact.

One such trainee was Han Gi Chan, who ultimately ranked 57th overall and was eliminated in the 8th episode.

Following his elimination, Han Gi Chan remained under Fantagio and pivoted towards acting. The following year, he made his acting debut in Korea’s first BL drama, Where Your Eyes Linger, before appearing in other television and web series, including Ocean Likes Me.

In early 2024, it was announced that Han was cast in his first film,  The Wedding Banquet.

The Wedding Banquet is a remake of a 1993 romance comedy that tells the story of a gay Korean man who proposes a green-card wedding to his lesbian friend in exchange for paying for her partner’s IVF treatment.

Han Gi Chan is among the highest-billed actors and plays Min, while Bowen Yang stars as Chris, his partner. Kelly Marie Tran plays Angela, the lesbian friend, while Lily Gladstone plays her partner.

The film premiered at the  2025 Sundance Film Festival and will be released theatrically on April 18.
