She was fully booked just months ago.

A popular actress has taken a hit, both in terms of her public image and her career. According to the latest reports, she has gone from having a packed schedule to an empty one for the next three years.

On April 23, news outlets reported that actress Nagano Mei had been caught two-timing with her Caster co-star Kim Moo Jun and her former co-star, Japanese actor Tanaka Kei, who is married with two children. Suggestive text messages allegedly sent by Tanaka and Nagano were also leaked online.

Nagano, Tanaka, and Kim have all denied the claims, but that hasn’t stopped the fallout. Nagano has reportedly lost sponsorships and her role in the upcoming NHK Taiga series, Toyotomi Brothers! Her agency, Stardust Promotion, shared the news and apologized to those looking forward to the show.

In view of the great trouble and concern caused to the relevant units by this series of reports, [Mei Nagano] has decided to withdraw from the show. We deeply apologise to everyone who is looking forward to the broadcast, as well as the program-related personnel and co-stars.

Unfortunately, Nagano has reportedly continued to lose sponsorships and jobs, including work as a radio personality on Nagano Mei’s All Night Nippon X. Japanese media has reported that her once fully booked schedule is now completely blank, and rumors about jaw-droppingly high penalty fees have continued to circulate.

Despite this, Nagano is reportedly not planning to go on hiatus and may, instead, attempt to pivot her career by pursuing roles for streaming platforms rather than television.

Honestly, a comeback via streaming is the most realistic route for her right now. Big-name sponsors won’t touch her for the time being, but streaming giants might see the value in her star power and the built-in controversy buzz.
