They understand why he sued the owner.

Recently, an exclusive report revealed that actor Park Seo Joon had filed a lawsuit against Mr. A, the owner of a marinated crab restaurant.

The report claimed that Mr. A used scenes from the K-drama What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? without the actor’s consent to promote the restaurant.

After learning about the banners and Naver search ads, Park Seo Joon reportedly sued for ₩6.00 billion KRW (about $4.44 million USD) in damages.

Although Mr. A responded that using scenes for promotional purposes was common business practice, the court ruled in Park Seo Joon’s favor, with no additional appeals from either side.

A recent online community post garnered over 44,000 views as netizens discovered untrue facts about the case.

They revealed that Park Seo Joon claimed 60,000,000 KRW ($~44,130.63 USD) in damages and not ₩6.00 billion KRW (about $4.44 million USD).

They also stated that Mr. A did not immediately take down the banners upon request but rather briefly took them down and put them back up again. Even after requesting to take it down again, they didn’t listen.

Lastly, they revealed that besides banners, they also put up Naver search ads.

While most netizens felt he was being petty for suing a small business owner, others defended him.

  • “If he’s requested to take it down for six years, then I think it’s ok to file a lawsuit now. If this keeps up, what about all the advertisers who pay them? Stop trying to make excuses.”
  • “It’s the restaurant’s fault for not taking it down. Dramas should stop using restaurants to film and use a set.”
  • “No one would say anything about posting a banner and photo…but using portal site search ads is crossing the line.”
  • “First, people were bashing him for not requesting that they take it down before filing a lawsuit…but he’s been warning them since 2019, and yet he is still getting criticized.”
  • “They didn’t listen to him for years…does he have to continue to request that they take them down until they do? He needs to go by the law. Do you think other advertisers are stupid to pay millions to use them as models?”
