“Controversial” Group Meant To Disband After 3 Months Celebrates Milestone Anniversary
While longevity is the dream all fans have for their favorite groups, numerous obstacles can stand in the way. As members grow older and priorities change, some may no longer be interested in continuing as members, or some may wish to step out of the spotlight.
The notorious 7-year-curse has resulted in many groups ending their activities at that distinction.
Recently, a group meant to disband after just three months celebrated a massive anniversary with a bang.
In February 2005, SM Entertainment announced it would debut a brand new boy group with twelve members. The group, then rumored to be called O.V.E.R., was to run on a rotational basis, constantly introducing new members, similar to the current idea behind NCT U.
The group’s name was finally settled on before their official debut in November 2005 — Super Junior 05.
Following the release of “Miracles,” plans for a new line-up, Super Junior 06, were discussed as originally planned, effectively disbanding the previous unit. However, it seems that the success of the track changed plans, and with the addition of Kyuhyun, the group instead changed from a rotational group to a fixed group and dropped the number in the name.
Over the years, Super Junior has remained active despite line-up changes and actions that sometimes spark the ire of the K-Pop community (like Leeteuk’s recent mention of Elon Musk) which have created a somewhat “controversial” status for the group.

The group’s 20th anniversary celebrations include a recently announced world tour, and their recent comeback with SuperJunior25, a callback to the original idea of Super Junior 05.
