The Reason Park Seo Joon Declined Romance Dramas For Years
Park Seo Joon has been acting for over a decade and has showcased many sides of his talent and just how diverse he is in the different roles he has played.
When it comes to K-Dramas, netizens have loved seeing him in classic rom-com series, and that’s what Park Seo Joon became known for. Some of his most-loved K-Drama roles fall within this category, including the hit series She Was Pretty, Fight For My Way, and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.
But following those series, there was a distinct lack of romance in Park Seo Joon’s K-Drama life. His following project Concrete Utopia alongside actress Park Bo Young was a thriller film follows survivors of an earthquake at Imperial Palace Apartments in Seoul and is definitely a far cry from some of his K-Dramas.
In an interview, Park Seo Joon shared that he won’t be doing any more of “that” genre, adding, “Til now, I’ve done many rom-coms, so I started wanting to do other genres.”
In the interview, he explained that although each show he has been in is different, he wants to keep it “fun.” While his last rom-com project was What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, he hasn’t done one since and affirms that he probably wouldn’t do another one anytime soon…
Although each rom-com is different, I wanted to change the genre. I want to keep it fun. I’ve been challenging myself since ‘Secretary Kim,’ and I think I haven’t chosen a rom-com since then, and will continue to do so moving forward.

Of course, Park Seo Joon wanted to emphasize that he still has a love for this genre, but he explained that his desire for variety is stronger at this moment.
Of course, I like rom-coms, and I think that the genre is challenging, so I’m not saying I don’t want to rom-coms, just that my desire to try something different is greater.

And it seems like that “soon” is going to end, as he has been confirmed for JTBC’s upcoming K-Drama Waiting for Kyungdo, which is a romantic comedy genre K-Drama. This will be his first romantic role since 2020 in Itaewon Class.
