Recently, a popular idol’s comments left fans saddened about the future.
In 2023, following the finalé of Boys Planet, ZEROBASEONE made their debut. Like many survival show groups, ZEROBASEONE was announced to have a limited contract length of 2 and a half years. This means they could disband in January 2026, following other popular MNet survival show groups I.O.I and WANNAONE. As a result, fans have stayed alert and hyperaware of any signs their contracts may be extended.

During a recent live stream, member Matthew was answering questions from fans when he was asked if he bought any new Pokémon cards, as he is a big fan. The idol responded that he hadn’t and said he had started saving money, and that he needed to in response to the question.
Matt, did you get some new Pokémon cards? Um, right now no, I, I I’ve started saving money. I need to start saving money.
— Matthew
Some fans have taken his sharing of this as an indication that he will be “unemployed” i.e., ZEROBASEONE will be disband, in a few months and expressed sadness over his comment.
