Not many expected this!

A Korean comedy-drama has surprised audiences by taking the crown as the most successful film of 2025 so far. Despite competing against major Hollywood projects and big-name directors, My Daughter Is A Zombie has managed to stay at the top of the box office.

Directed by Pil Gam Sung, the movie tells the quirky yet touching story of a father who goes through secret training to protect his daughter — the last zombie left on earth.

Featuring performances from Jo Jung Suk, Jo Yeo Jeong, Lee Jung Eun, and Yoon Kyung Ho, the film blends humor with heartfelt family themes, offering something different from the typical summer blockbuster lineup.

As of August 16, My Daughter Is A Zombie has sold more than 4.3 million tickets in Korea, securing its position as the highest-grossing release of the year so far. It overtook F1: The Movie, a Hollywood production led by Brad Pitt, which currently sits just over 4.1 million admissions. The film continues to pull in large numbers daily, showing no signs of slowing down.

Other big titles have followed behind. Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning brought in around 3.39 million viewers, while the Korean political drama Yadang is close behind at 3.37 million. Director Bong Joon Ho’s much-anticipated return with Mickey 17 also made headlines earlier this year but has settled into fifth place with 3.01 million.

This summer, theaters have been dominated by My Daughter Is A Zombie and F1: The Movie, which together created a two-way competition at the box office. Even weeks after their release, both films continue to attract huge crowds, cementing their place as the season’s biggest hits.
