A female idol who previously debuted in two groups is now leaving two more, following a controversy.

Nara Nodoka is a 19-year-old member of the Japanese idol girl group iLiFE! and HEROINES (a supergroup that includes multiple groups under its umbrella, including iLiFE!). She joined both groups on September 24, 2024. Nara was previously a member of the girl group zocx and the co-ed group ZOCX. She graduated from both groups on March 31, 2024.

Although it isn’t unusual for Japanese idols to “graduate” from their groups, making way for new members to join, Nara’s latest departures weren’t planned. According to an official statement, Nara is leaving iLiFE!, and by extension HEROINES, due to a “serious rule violation.”
This decision comes after leaked photos of Nara with her alleged boyfriend went viral on social media, along with claims that she spoke poorly about her iLiFE! members in private LINE chat messages.

Nara released her own statement on X (formerly known as Twitter), apologizing to her fans and members for “betraying” their expectations. “If I could turn back time, I would,” she wrote. “I know I have no right to perform after breaking the rules, but pulling out two days before the concert would only cause more pain for the members and for the fans who have supported us. I will give my best in this last performance, but I carry deep regret.”

She expressed regret for breaking the rules, but did not state what those rules were. Initially, Nara had been removed from her group’s concert at the Nippon Budokan arena in Tokyo, just two days before the performance on August 27. She explained that since her absence would have burdened her members, she would be allowed to perform.
Netizens who defended Nara on X believe that she shouldn’t have been kicked out of the group for dating, and that all idols have a right to privacy.
it's the year 2025 and idol groups are still kicking their members for simply having a private life, i'm tired https://t.co/A0JcfCQlXz

Every time you kick another idol out because of dating will increase the ego of the people that “expose” this crap and eventually you’re going to end up with an innocent girl getting hurt by someone because they feel “betrayed“. https://t.co/xkmd274TLs

People who expose idols for living their lives with the intention of harming them, making them feel hated or ashamed and guilty are monsters and are guaranteed a place in the worst layer of hell https://t.co/taM7RN2IuR

A day later, iLiFE!’s agency, imaginate, demoted the group’s leader after a video of her “inappropriate behavior” went viral.
