TWICE Chaeyoung’s New Song Lyrics Stir Up Intense Speculation Over Hidden Meaning
TWICE’s Chaeyoung dropped her highly anticipated debut solo album Lil Fantasy Vol. 1 this week, and one song in particular is sparking huge speculation among fans: track four, “Girl.”

The predominantly English-language track features lyrics like, “You can come closer, little girl / Why do we live, spinning around and crashing into each other?” In the chorus, Chaeyoung proceeds to sing “I could be the one (Girl, I’m here) / You could be the one (Don’t be afraid)” and “Forever we could be a secret.”

Across social media, fans have been quick to interpret the lyrics through an LGBTQ+ lens.

Many are calling the song “gay”” outright, with others seeing the theme of the song as a romantic “situationship” between two women.

As with all the songs on the album, Chaeyoung participated in writing the lyrics for “Girl” herself, with her personal involvement only intensifying fans’ theories about the song’s potential “WLW” meaning. In an interview with TMRW magazine, Chaeyoung offered her own explanation for the track.

This is a song for the girls that have a similar taste and style as me. It’s very calm and soothing, and the song is very guitar-driven. When I chose the theme of the song as girls, it was just quite natural that it would really go well with these guitar chords. Overall, this song and the lyrics just came out really naturally.

She expanded on the sentiment in Rolling Stone, with “Girl” described as “an ode to all the shy girls like herself.” In her interview with the magazine, Chaeyoung explained, “I 100% do think that the quiet girls are powerful girls with their thoughts and minds. I wanted to write a song that they can empathize with.”
Back in April 2024, Chaeyoung’s relationship with rapper Zion.T, 10 years her senior, was officially confirmed. Earlier this year, the couple was spotted together in Jeju Island, indicating that the two are still dating.
