Popular Girl Group Member Addresses Her Controversial Viral Video
Recently, an idol’s pre-debut video went viral, causing a stir as it spread across social media. Now, she’s personally speaking up about the controversy.

Tanaka Misora is a member of the popular Japanese idol girl group NMB48. She joined the lineup as a trainee in 2023 before becoming an official, regular member of NMB48’s Team M in October 2024.

Recently, a two-year-old video clip of Misora attracted attention because of remarks made about her company. She playfully threatened to “drop the Misora bomb” about what was happening behind the scenes at NMB48’s agency, and the video’s onscreen text referred to the agency as a “black company.”

In Japan, “black company” (burakku kigyō) is a colloquial term for a company that uses exploitative, sweatshop-like labor practices. Black companies are characterized by unethical and questionable working arrangements, such as excessively long hours and abusive conditions.
On September 17, Misora addressed the controversy by posting an apology on X (formerly Twitter). She captioned it, “To everyone who has supported me, I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart.”

Due to my careless actions, I have caused trouble and concern for all those involved and all who support me. I am deeply sorry. Everything stems from my own shortcomings, and I am reflecting on them sincerely. It will not be easy to regain the trust I have lost, but I will face everyone in my own way and act earnestly step by step.
I’m still learning, but I will continue trying to grow, as both an idol and as a person.
I would be truly grateful if you would keep watching over me.
