With the release of letters actor Kim Soo Hyun wrote to his actual girlfriend during his military service, allegations of underage dating with the late Kim Sae Ron are losing credibility.
According to attorney Ko Sang Rok of Phil Law Firm, Kim Soo Hyun wrote letters to his lover whenever he had time while serving in the military after enlisting in October 2017.

From January 2018 to discharge, he exchanged around 150 letters, personally delivering them during vacations.
In his diary entry from July 30, 2018, he wrote, “I’m definitely going to go on a trip with her this time next year. I’ll do everything new and never done before with her. We will go far for a long time. I want to cherish and love each other deeply, but sometimes fight and make up. There are os many things I want to experience.”
In his August 3, 2018, entry, he stated, “I’m getting hit reality in the military, but one thing is clear. I am treating her better than before I enlisted. I still miss her and want to see her. I’m grateful to be able to make her feel good and happy. I’m reflecting deeply and grateful every day she waits for me.”
Attorney Ko evaluated the records and revealed, “These are honest writings that reflect his circumstances at the time, making them highly credible as legal evidence, with no possibility of manipulation.”

The letter sent to the late Kim Sae Ron during his military service, which became controversial, was different. This letter was not a love letter but a collection of reflections on military life.
He often wrote letters to acquaintances to maintain a sense of connection with the outside world, and the letter he wrote to the deceased was part of that effort.
Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron began dating in the latter half of 2019, after she became an adult. The photos taken on December 14, 2019, December 24, 2020, and January 22, 20202 were confirmed. All these photos were taken after she entered college.
The attorney stated that if the relationship began in middle school, there would be photos and documents from that period, but no additional documents have been presented. Conversely, all current evidence indicates that the relationship began after she became an adult.
This case began with a draft statement sent by the deceased to an acquaintance on March 25, 2024. While the document stated that they dated from “2015 to 2021,” discrepancies were identified with the chronological facts.

Kim Soo Hyun’s side later clarified the actual timing and nature of the relationship, drawing objective evidence from photos, letters, and postcards.
Attorney Ko stated, “The facts are clear.”
Regarding this case, Ko revealed, “The 150 letters left by Kim Soo Hyun during military service were not fabricated to defend a specific individual, but rather records written naturally within the context of time. These materials support the same facts, and can be legally recognized as evidence.”
He added, “The single letter sent to the deceased during his military service is not evidence to prove their relationship. It falls into the same category as general letters sent to his acquaintances then. Considering they already released photos and postcards, it is clear that the relationship took place after she became an adult.”
