Legendary Boy Group Member Announces His Divorce
Seven years after saying “I do,” a beloved artist and his wife have announced the end of their marriage.
Kohama Ryota is a Japanese musician and the bassist of the popular rock band ONE OK ROCK. The band formed in 2005, after Ryota’s childhood friend, Yamashita Toru, invited him to start a band. At the time, they were both high school students.
On February 18, 2017, Ryota married Michelle Lavigne, the younger sister of Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne, who rose to fame in the early 2000s’ pop-punk scene.

Their first child, a daughter, was born that same year, in October.
On September 30, Ryota and Michelle posted a joint statement on Instagram written in Japanese and English. They did not provide any details about their divorce. Instead, they asked fans for kindness and understanding as they begin “this new chapter.”

The announcement comes in the midst of ONE OK ROCK’s 2025 DETOX tour. The band will be kicking off the European leg of their tour in Madrid, Spain, on October 6.
