When asked about the message of his new song, Kino shared that it was a way for him to hit back at the image of a “good boy” that is expected of him.

After starting my own one-person agency and running the business, I began to hate the sight of myself forcing a smile. I’m nothing like the so-called “good boy” that society expects. When anger builds up to the brim, people naturally crave something provocative, right? To heighten that feeling, I put in some provocative words. “CLUB SEX CIGARETTES” is like me spitting out a sarcastic greeting to uptight people. In short, “You can keep pretending to be good — I’ll live my own way.”

Kino answered additional questions similarly, saying that he meant to cause discomfort with the porn scene and that his message to fans was that you don’t have to change to make more people love you.

Question: Were there any particular performance or expression points in the video that you paid special attention to?
Kino: I tried not to look “pretty.” I used to always worry about what others might like, but this time I focused on the message. So I included scenes of myself eating greedily and watching explicit videos. If it made anyone feel uncomfortable, then it worked.

Q: What message do you want to send to your fans through this project?
K: That you don’t need to be loved by everyone. Even without forcing myself into a mold, I found there are people who love me just as I am. I realized that’s enough. I’m really grateful for that. (laughs)

This interview was included on a post about the music video, with netizens commenting that their opinion of Kino had changed.

  • “Kino always seemed so straight-laced to me… how did he end up like this?”
  • “Do people really want to see their idol watching porn? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ”
Honestly, if a girl group member filmed a scene like that, people would be saying all kinds of things.
  • “Even if Pentagon wasn’t that big of a group, Kino was so talented and generally well-liked… it’s such a shame.”

Based on Kino’s interview, it appears exactly what he hoped to happen did.
