Korean Star’s Business In Jeju Investigated By Police For Illegal Activity

The business is allegedly “large.”

A well-known celebrity’s massive café in Jeju Island is under scrutiny after authorities discovered it may have been illegally built on public land without proper approval. The café, which gained attention for being associated with the star, is now facing questions over its use of forest land.

According to a report from KBS News, an inspection by Seogwipo City revealed that around 6,000 square meters (roughly 1,800 pyeong) of forest had been converted for non-forestry purposes without permission. The area surrounding the café included walking paths, a grass-covered hill with swings and decorative structures, and a spacious parking lot for visitors. Most of the land outside the café building itself was originally classified as forest.

Seogwipo City has referred the matter to local police for investigation into potential environmental violations. The café operator explained that they only recently became aware of the illegal land conversion and had intended to resolve the issue, but financial limitations prevented them from doing so.

The celebrity previously listed as a co-representative of the café also clarified the controversy.

My contract ended in April this year, so I am no longer involved in managing the café. At the time of its establishment, I only handled some interior work and was not aware of the land issues.

Authorities in Seogwipo have stated that, depending on the outcome of the police investigation, they may issue an order to restore the land to its original condition.
