8 “KPop Demon Hunters” Fan Theories That Completely Change The Movie

Could these theories become canon in the sequel?

Overnight, Sony‘s KPop Demon Hunters movie became a smash hit thanks to its memorable music and lovable characters. A sequel is reportedly scheduled for 2029, but until then, here are 8 theories that add more to the lore.

1. Celine killed Rumi’s mother

KPop Demon Hunters is already darker than it seems, but this fan theory adds another unsettling layer.

Some fans believe that Celine is responsible for the death of Rumi’s mother, Ryu Mi-yeong, either on purpose or by accident.

2. The love between demons and hunters is the key to defeating Gwi-ma

Rumi, Mira, and Zoey live by the demon hunters’ mantra: “We are hunters, voices strong, slaying demons with our song. Fix the world and make it right, when darkness finally meets the light.” In the movie, “when darkness meets the light” seems to refer to hunters meeting demons in battle and vanquishing darkness with light. But what if “when darkness meets the light” actually suggests a union between demons and hunters, not a fight?

One fan used Rumi’s parents and Jinu and Rumi’s relationships as examples to support this theory. The love between Rumi’s parents resulted in Rumi’s birth, and she was the one to defeat Gwi-ma.

3. Rumi can only take Jinu’s soul because she is part demon.

During the movie’s most heartbreaking scene, Jinu tells Rumi that she gave him his soul back. Then he gives that soul to her, helping her to defeat Gwi-ma.

However, one fan suggests that this was only possible because of Rumi’s heritage. They also theorized that Rumi’s mother gave her soul to Rumi’s father.

4. HUNTR/X aren’t the only demon hunters.

Protecting the entire world from demons is a lot of work for three people, but what if there were more musicians around the world who were helping to keep humanity safe?

5. “Takedown” did more damage to the honmoon than the Saja Boys did.

One fan pointed out that HUNTR/X’s diss track “Takedown” is full of negativity rather than unity.

6. All the Saja Boys, except Jinu, have had their memories erased.

Unlike Jinu, the other Saja Boys members “behave like zombies” whenever they aren’t in character. If Gwi-ma is gone for good, and the Saja Boys are still alive, could their memories be restored? What would their backstories be?

7. Gwi-ma turns every stolen soul into a demon.

In the movie, it seems like the hangry bonfire is craving souls for dinner, but according to this fan theory, he’s actually adding new soldiers to his army.

8. The Saja Boys used to be a different boy group.

Healer Han has photos of different idol groups on his wall, including boy groups. One fan suggested that all the Saja Boys members except Jinu were part of a different boy group when they were human.
