Despite her long-standing reputation as one of K-Pop’s most successful soloists, her new project isn’t matching her earlier commercial performance.

Taeyeon’s compilation album Panorama: The Best of TAEYEON opened with around 39,000 first-day sales, a steep decline compared to her strongest debut day.

Her previous peak was nearly 97,000 copies for Purpose, marking a noticeable gap. Even her previous comeback before this one — Letter to Myself — surpassed the new release, recording just over 47,000 units on day one. Such a downwards trajectory has sparked shock among netizens.

Taeyeon’s recent streaming figures have also gained attention. The title track “Panorama” entered Spotify with roughly 170,000 first-day streams, a level many didn’t expect from a veteran of her status.

The number has drawn attention because several newer solo debuts and rookie groups have recently debuted with higher first-day streams, intensifying debates about what may have caused the drop.

Fans and netizens alike are discussing whether the performance reflects changing listening habits, limited promotion, or shifting public interest. Others highlight that compilation albums typically sell less than full studio releases, though the decline still appears larger than anticipated for an artist with Taeyeon’s reputation.

While the album has sparked concern among some listeners, many remain confident in her long-term influence and are waiting to see how the project performs in the coming days.
