Recently, the revelation of actor Jo Jin Woong‘s criminal past has left many in shock.

Actor Jo Hyung Ki began his career in 1979, appearing in a guest role in the K-Drama, Chief Inspector. He continued earning fame through the 80s, making a name for himself in supporting roles and his career continued until 2017, when he retired.

Rather than his retirement being due to age or a lack of desire to continue working, it was due to his scandal resurfacing.

In 1991, while driving under the influence, he would hit and kill a woman in her 30s, then attempt to hide the body afterward. He was sleeping in his car near where he hid the body and arrested, with his blood alcohol level still registering at 0.26% even 7 hours later.

Jo Hyung Ki was originally sentenced to three years in prison, which was increased to five years in prison after appeals. Ultimately another round of appeals resulted in his original sentence being anulled, and he was sentenced to three years of probation, with two years of prison should he violate probation.

Due to the internet being new at the time, the case was reported by only a few outlets, which allowed him to continue his career almost immediately after in 1993.

From then until 2017, he would continue his career until his forced retirement.
