Veteran Actor Yoon Il Bong Passes Away At Age 91

Veteran actor Yoon Il Bong, father of ballet dancer Yoon Hye Jin and father-in-law of actor Um Tae Woong, has passed away.

According to broadcast insiders on the 8th, Yoon Il-bong passed away on this day at the age of 91.

Born in Goesan County, Chungbuk, the late Yoon Il Bong made his debut in 1947 at the age of 13 with the cultural film Railway Story and began his formal acting career in 1948 with the commercial film Blue Hill. In 1951, he married the late Yoo Eun Yi, elder sister of actor Yoo Dong Geun, and they had three children. Among their children, ballet dancer Yoon Hye Jin married Um Tae Woong.

In 1956, he debuted as a stage actor in the play Heroic Bandit Im Kkeok Jeong and appeared in over 100 films.

Especially, the late Yoon Il Bong, standing nearly 180cm tall with a charming appearance, was a leading man in romance films from the 1970s to the 1980s.

In 1967, he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Grand Bell Awards and 17 years later in 1984, he received the Best Actor award at the same ceremony.

He also served as the 11th president of the Korea Film Promotion Corporation.

His funeral is being held at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, with the funeral procession scheduled for the 10th.
