On November 12, Netflix released a new romantic comedy series, Dynamite Kiss. It follows a desperate job-seeker, who lies her way into steady employment at a baby products company by pretending to be a married mother. Things get complicated when she finds out that her team leader is the man she had a whirlwind romance with in Jeju.

Lately, some K-Dramas haven’t been scratching the itch that fans have for rom-coms. Sometimes, murder plots, terminal illnesses, and other things you wouldn’t expect to find in a fluffy romance suddenly barge in mid-series, throwing viewers for a loop. Dynamite Kiss, on the other hand, seems to be giving rom-com lovers exactly what they’ve been craving.

Some fans say that Dynamite Kiss is exactly what they’ve been searching for, and that it brings back “old school charm” from 2000s K-Drama romantic comedies. Two of the 2000s’ most popular rom-coms were Coffee Prince and Boys Over Flowers.

Dynamite Kiss also serves as a much-needed palate cleanser for fans who have been watching emotionally-heavy K-Dramas such as Dear X and When Life Gives You Tangerines.
