Controversial “Multinational” K-Pop Group Triggers Major Criticism With Debut “Live” Performance
In recent years, there have been more and more idols debuting in groups that aren’t Korean, and back in 2022, a new girl group called MEP-C started gaining attention as they were cast in controversy before even debuting.

After many netizens thought the group had been forgotten, they recently made their debut with the song “Truth Seeker” under the simple name of MEPC.
As the group is starting to make their presence known, it was revealed that only one of the seven members is Korean, with the rest coming from different countries. Although it isn’t too common to have so few Korean members, it isn’t completely unique as the current lineup of BLACKSWAN consists of foreign members.

Yet, amid the promotions, MEPC has been caught in a wave of criticism, as they participated in It’s Live.
When a clip of the performance was shared by the official TikTok, it instantly went viral but was also subjected to a lot of criticism.

While some questioned the ability to call themselves K-Pop, with just one Korean member, a lot of comments focused on the talent of the members. Many shared that they didn’t understand how the group got on such a prestigious channel and pointed out that even with options of auto-correction seen in videos like this, the performance felt like a joke.
