Hyoyeon Confesses To Past Feud Within Girls’ Generation
Hyoyeon shared an anecdote about conflicts she had with Girls’ Generation members.
On the 19th, Hyoyeon of Girls’ Generation appeared as a guest on Super Junior Donghae and Eunhyuk‘s YouTube channel and shared stories. While talking about the atmosphere during practice, Hyoyeon said, “In the past, when someone suggested an opinion, the usual response was ‘Okay, we’ll do it,’ but now some friends clearly express their opinions by saying, ‘No, I think it’s better not to do this.’”
Donghae responded, “The difference between you and us is that we’re a bit more ‘scared,’” and Eunhyuk added, “When I voice a different opinion alone, I worry, ‘Will I get scolded?’ We have that fear. We don’t want to be outcasts among the members,” he confessed.
Hyoyeon then said, “But I think there has to be that kind of atmosphere in a group. So I once spoke firmly. I made them give valid reasons for things, and when they didn’t, they’d say, ‘We’ll do it without you.’ I’m a type T. But I guess they didn’t expect me to say that. About a year ago, they told me they felt really hurt about it.”
Donghae was curious, asking, “Do you guys fight too?” Hyoyeon replied, “We’re actually the type that hardly fight. We hear about fights in other girl groups, but I think it’s natural to fight sometimes. After all, when working, it’s impossible to always have the same opinion. But we all tend to take a step back and look at things, so we rarely fight. If you ask who the troublemaker in fights is, it’s me,” she admitted.
Donghae asked, “What was the biggest fight you had during your activities?” and Hyoyeon answered immediately, “It was me.”
Donghae followed up, “With who and what’s the story?” Hyoyeon said, “The majority of the members versus me,” making everyone laugh.
Eunhyuk asked, “You just barged in alone?” and Hyoyeon explained, “That happened once. There was a rehearsal to go into, but because of me, we couldn’t start rehearsal. That causes a bad relationship with the broadcast station, right? Because of me. It was a situation like that. I got delayed because on the way back from Yongpyeong skiing, the car turned back, and I had to call another car to come get me. I apologized to the broadcast station, but I didn’t to the members,” explaining the situation at the time.
She added, “I thought if I told them, they’d be worried and care about me — I wanted to come so badly but had an accident. So I didn’t apologize to the members. But to them, it was work. It’s not ‘you’re late because you had an accident, are you hurt?’ It’s work, and that’s why they got upset,” she said.
Eunhyuk said, “So you expected the members to say, ‘Are you okay?’” Hyoyeon said, “But I was clueless and said things like, ‘Let’s cheer up, fighting!’ So two members came to me and said, ‘This isn’t the right mood. You should apologize to the members first.’ That’s when I realized that’s what I needed to do,” she explained.
Hearing this, Eunhyuk said, “So it wasn’t a big fight.” Hyoyeon admitted, “I didn’t apologize right away. It wasn’t days later, but a few hours later,” she revealed.
Eunhyuk said, “So there was some uncomfortable tension,” and Donghae pointed out, “But isn’t it usual to say “Sorry, sorry” right when it happens?” To that, Hyoyeon replied with a laugh, “Exactly, so I wasn’t well-raised. I did wrong.”
