He has been hit with massive backlash.

Stray Kids’ leader Bang Chan is facing heavy backlash after an indirect interaction with a fan on Bubble went viral, with many accusing him of crossing boundaries and treating the fan platform like a dating app.

The controversy began during “Selca Day,” a recurring K-pop fandom trend where fans and idols post selfies on social media, usually on the same designated day each month. In some cases, fans share photos that some have described as “risky,” including photos of them wearing revealing clothes. During, the STAY Selca Day this month, Bang Chan then said he was scrolling through the fan posts.

One fan’s revealing photo had gained massive attention and engagement on X. Shortly after several tweets aimed directly at him were posted, Bang Chan responded on Bubble with messages that closely mirrored the fan’s tweets. While he never replied publicly on X, the timing and wording made it clear to many that he was reacting to that specific fan in real time.

Screenshots comparing the tweets and Bang Chan’s Bubble messages spread rapidly, leading to accusations that he was flirting with the fan. Some even described his replies as “horny messages.”

Many condemned his behavior, pointing out the inherent power imbalance between idols and fans and warning that such interactions can fuel unhealthy parasocial relationships. Others raised concerns about Stray Kids’ young fanbase, questioning whether this kind of behavior is appropriate on a paid fan communication app used by minors.

As the backlash grew, the fan account involved in the incident was set to private. However, the debate between fans defending Bang Chan and those condemning him continues.
