Recently, a user on X (formerly Twitter) made a post alleging that Jennie and her fans “made up” the claim that she was the last Chanel ambassador to be personally picked by Karl Lagerfeld before he passed in 2019. The post cited an interview of Hollywood actress Margot Robbie as evidence, where she mentioned that she was the last Chanel ambassador chosen by Lagerfeld.

With over a million views at the time of writing, this post has sparked a heated debate about Jennie’s credibility and even brought her brutal criticism.

However, fans pointed out the nuance of the situation. Margot Robbie was Lagerfeld’s last pick as the ambassador of Chanel, while Jennie was the last muse he picked for the luxury house.

So, how does a muse differ from an ambassador? While an ambassador is an official contracted representative who promotes the brand through fronting campaigns and lending it visibility at events, a muse is a less formal role. Being a muse for a luxury house often means inspiring the designer’s creative vision and exuding the brand’s spirit personally through an organic, intimate relationship with the artists who lead the brand.

Hence, it is entirely possible that both Margot Robbie and Jennie have their facts correct. The nuance lied in the terms used for each of them.

Meanwhile, Jennie is also facing accusations of falsifying her sales numbers with her solo album Ruby.
