The most popular free manga app has recently announced the halt of one of its series due to the crimes of its creator.

On February 27, the editorial department of Shogakukan’s Manga One App released a statement apologizing for rehiring a sex offender author. Mangaka Shoichi Yamamoto, author of Daten Sakusen, was working as a high school art teacher at the time of his crimes.

In 2016, after becoming close with a 15-year-old female student, he began grooming her, first kissing her in his car before he began taking her to love hotels after she turned 16. The two would then have sex once or twice a month for around three years.

Yamamoto, who was 30 years older than the student, also “punished” her with sexualized acts, including forcing her to rub feces on her face and eat it. He also took photos of the student during sex and in other locations while nude.

He was fined 200,000 yen (around 1282 USD) after a 2020 arrest for violating the Child Pornography Prohibition Act. In 2021, he attempted to convince the victim to settle for 1.5 million yen (around 9,617 USD) with an NDA agreement, which she refused.

Just 2 years after his arrest, he was rehired under the alias Hajime Ichiro to write for Jōjin Kamen.

The victim has since sued him in a civil case over the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Dissociative Identity Disorder she developed from the abuse, and on February 20, 2026, it was ruled that he must pay her 11 million yen (around 70,509 USD) as compensation.

The app has since stopped deliveries and availability of Jōjin Kamen, apologizing for seemingly concealing the author’s crimes over the past decade.
