K-Pop Soloist Reveals Hit Song Was About Someone In Her Life, Hinting At Breakup With Rumored Boyfriend
MAMAMOO member and soloist Hwasa opened up about the story behind her hit song “Good Goodbye” in a new video shared by the LOGOS YouTube channel.

The video, filmed last year, features Hwasa meeting composer Park Woo Sang, who worked on the song with her, and she candidly discusses the emotions and stories behind the track. After the song’s success, Hwasa shared that she found it difficult to fully celebrate the achievement.
People around me congratulated me a lot, but I couldn’t really enjoy this song. It contains a story I had been quietly struggling with. More than happiness, I just feel pure gratitude.

Hwasa explained that the songwriting process felt like someone had taken her thoughts and translated them into music. “I felt like if I poured just a little more of myself into it, I could finish it properly. It was a kind of happy obsession,” she said, revealing why she spent so much time focusing on the track. The idol then spoke about the emotions she experienced while writing the lyrics about a “good breakup.”
When I was going through a breakup, I kept wondering, ‘What exactly is this feeling?’ I couldn’t say anything. There were no words that could properly wrap up that final moment.
That question, like ‘Why can’t I say anything?’ was where it all started. I felt so suffocated by that feeling. I kept thinking, ‘What can I possibly say to someone who shared the final act of my life with me—someone who shared a chapter of it?’ It was really difficult. It was when I finally said ‘goodbye’ that it felt like things were really done and over.

The video is now being interpreted as a possible sign that Hwasa has ended her relationship. In 2023, the idol was rumored to be dating a businessman 12 years her senior, with reports claiming they had been together for five years. At the time, her agency stated that it was difficult to confirm because it involved her private life.

However, during an appearance on comedian Park Na Rae’s YouTube channel last year alongside model Han Hye Jin, Hwasa remarked, “Aren’t the three of us all single right now?” The comment was widely taken as a hint that she had already split from her rumored boyfriend, and the newly resurfaced video is now being viewed by some as further confirmation.
